Share a funny couple moment with the Blue & Gold.
We were in a crowd and I was used to my wife being the only person with dark hair – there aren’t too many Asians in Tasmania – so I put my arm around some other girl and didn’t realize who it was until I saw my wife laughing.
What advice would you give high school students?
My advice would be to be yourself, don’t play games and be honest with yourself and your partner. It is fine to have relationships in high school because it gives you experience in relating to others. I myself learned a lot about how to be a better husband because I learned from all my mistakes that I made in previous relationships.

How did you meet your husband?
It was during a national student exchange and I was working as a basketball referee. He yelled at me about not seeing some guy poke him in the eye and I said, ‘Dude you have two though!’ Apparently he played all year and wanted to, but never asked me out until March. We played Horse on the court and that was the only time he ever let me win. After that it was three dates, then he moved to Minnesota for me then we married.
What advice would you give high school students?
Dump anyone that gets jealous. If you guys don’t have enough trust, then there’s no point in being together. Keep it light and have fun!

How did you meet your wife?
In Colombia we taught at the same school. We were going to meet up with a group of friends and to get there I decided to rollerblade, but I got lost and ended up not going. Then I sent twelve roses [to Susana] to apologize for missing the date and since then we’ve been together.
What advice would you give high school students?
Take your time; there’s no reason to rush.

How did you two meet?
At the new teacher orientation, Mr. Pettigrew actually made us sit together and forced us to talk. He said, “Hey you’re both teaching P.E, sit here.” We started talking and I told her that I recognized her from an event in Singapore the year before. She didn’t remember me but it was definitely interest at first sight for me.
What advice would you give high school students?
In high school you learn about relationships and very few last. Just enjoy the company of one another and don’t take it too seriously.

The start of the second semester at TAS is not just the start of another long stretch of school, but also a time when the passions of many TAS sports fans come to a lull. Two of the most watched sports at school, basketball and baseball, are currently in a period of relative unimportance. The Major League Baseball ended season last November, and the National Basketball League (as well as the National Hockey League) is in the middle of its regular season. (continue reading…)

With the increasing awareness of global environmental issues and the wasting of paper, many technological changes have been made in the TAS community over the past few years; many of which hoping to reduce the use of paper. The Upper School Library has also joined in this ‘movement’. Upon the commencement of the school year, the Upper School Library purchased two Kindles, which may change the way students view books. The TAS girls’ golf team has been synonymous with “IASAS Champions” for the last two years. Yet this year, with the departure of individual champion Sharon Li, the girls’ golf team dropped to 3rd position overall. The boys team remained consistent and eked out SAS to claim 5th place after a brutal two rounds at Jakarta International School (JIS) on the 13th and 14th of November. (continue reading…)
