On Aug. 26, undefeated former boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. will take on Ultimate Fighting Championship Lightweight champion Conor Mcgregor in the Las Vegas T-Mobile Arena.
During McGregor’s rise in the UFC, he openly pushed for a boxing match with Mayweather. According to Complex, McGregor said, “If you put me face-to-face with Floyd Mayweather—pound-for-pound boxing’s best—if I fought Floyd, I would kill him in less than 30 seconds.” According to the Guardian, Mayweather decided to come out of retirement in March of 2017 for one reason: “I’m coming out of retirement just to fight Conor McGregor. Plain and simple.”
Also known as “The Money Fight,” the interpromotional fight between UFC’s McGregor and boxing’s Mayweather will result in a lot of money for both fighters. According to Forbes, McGregor and Mayweather are expected to make at least $75 million US and $100 million US, respectively, on the fight alone. Meanwhile, the winner of the fight will claim the World Boxing Council Money Belt. Befitting its name, the belt contains 3,360 diamonds, 600 sapphires, 160 emeralds, and approximately 3.3 pounds of 24-karat gold. Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the WBC, stated that “it’s a lot of money. I don’t really have a figure. It’s a priceless piece for an historic event.”
While the real spectacle lies within the four-sided ring, the two fighters began to throw jabs at each other on the mic during their four-city promotional tour from July 11 to July 14. The verbal sparring began in Los Angeles, made its way to Toronto, moved to the Big Apple, and ended in London. On McGregor’s earnings, Mayweather said, “He look good for a seven-figure fighter. He look good for an eight-figure fighter. But I’m a nine-figure fighter.” Then, in regard to Mayweather’s alleged unpaid taxes, McGregor proclaims, “You right, I’m the IRS and I’m gonna tax your a—.” Throughout the tour, Mayweather was bombarded with boos while McGregor was rained on by the Ole chant of approval. Clearly, crowds worldwide favored the Irish Mixed Martial Arts star, McGregor.
Before you ask for $25M, be worth more than $25M. You have the "2" and the "5" right but you meant to say $2.5M not $25M. pic.twitter.com/07vaWF0hen

These tweets are just a one of few promotional pre-game jabs.
As a fan of boxing, Oliver Feuerhahn (‘18) acknowledges the possibility of McGregor winning: “Although Floyd isn’t the most entertaining fighter, he knows how to get points and his defensive approach won him 49 fights. I don’t see him losing.” Although Oliver believes that Mayweather will win the fight, he wants to watch the fight because of the seemingly insurmountable odds that McGregor faces. “Although Floyd will probably win, I want Conor to win because I like an underdog story,” says Oliver.
Another fan of the fight is Brandon Kao (‘18), also thinks that McGregor will end up with his back on the mat. Brandon states, “I want Mayweather to win because I don’t like McGregor. He’s too cocky. Mayweather will definitely win. I mean, he is undefeated.”
Witness the on-of-a-kind superfight on Sunday, August 27 at 9:00 a.m. Taipei Time. After all, Brandon calls it “the fight of the century.”

UPDATE: Conor McGregor unexpectedly came out of the gates strong, tagging Mayweather with an array of jabs and even landed a hard uppercut in the first round. However, Mayweather began to pick up McGregor’s movements after giving up the first three rounds and began to even up the match up. As the fight continued, McGregor became visibly fatigued while Mayweather continued to put the pressure on the UFC star. In the tenth round, Mayweather lit up McGregor with various strikes and referee Robert Byrd waved off the fight.
RESULT: Floyd Mayweather defeats Conor McGregor at a minute and five seconds (1:05) by TKO.
