Student Government hosts Zumba Party

Student+Government+hosts+Zumba+Party

Coming back to school and its accompanying stress, homework and 80-minute class periods can be difficult after two weeks of winter break. To get us back in formation, the Student Government held a Zumba party in the Upper School Gym during Flex.
The history of Zumba began when Alberto Perez, an aerobics teacher, forgot to bring his workout CDs and instead started playing salsa music for his students. Today, Zumba is a world-famous fitness program that gets your workout done with a dance party. Although it may seem difficult, no dance experience is required to enjoy it. Eddy Lin (‘20) says, “It’s simple enough that everyone can join in.”
Daniel Wang (‘18), Vice President of StuGov, says, “Last year, so many people went to Zumba that we had to bring it back this year! High school is pretty tough, so it’s pretty easy to forget that it’s supposed to be fun. That’s what StuGov wanted to help with this year: student wellness. I think activities like Zumba help take our minds off everything.” Rose Hsu (‘18), Co-President of StuGov, says that Zumba “gets students active and gives them a fun, productive break throughout the school day.”
Some students may think dancing along to merengue and mambo seems embarrassing, but according to Catherine Chou (‘19), “everyone’s there, so no one will notice you.”
If you missed Zumba, StuGov will likely have more fun activities planned for Spirit Week, Feb. 5-9.
