Large crowds gather to support Kuomintang candidate Han Kuo-yu at the rally on Jan. 9

Large crowds of Han Kuo-yu supporters arrived on Jan. 9 to rally on Ketagalan Boulevard in front of the Presidential Office. Enthusiastically waving the Republic of China (R.O.C) flag, supporters from all over Taiwan and from foreign countries arrived at the rally as a display of support for Han. According to organisers, over 500,000 people had turned up at the event, making it one of the most popular rallies in Taiwanese history.
Ms. Chen, a 32-year-old housewife who attended Han’s rally, agrees with many of the policies which Han has proposed to implement if he were to be elected President. “Han Kuo-yu is honest and practical,” said Ms. Shi. Han’s proposed changes regarding public transportation and education were especially appealing to Ms. Chen. “Current President Tsai Ing-wen is not like this. She does whatever the DPP (liberal Democratic Progressive Party) says without any thought as to how it will affect the people of Taiwan.”
“We have watched Taiwan change under President Tsai and we don’t like where it’s gone, “ said Mr. Lin. “all we want is to protect the next generation and defend our country’s progress through voting for Han.”
