“Run” is a suspense thriller that follows the story of a disabled homeschooled girl living with her overprotective mother in an isolated home. Directed by Aneesh Chaganty, and released on Nov. 20 in Taiwan, the movie stars actors Kiera Allen and Sarah Paulson. 

After watching the trailer of the movie, I was immediately captivated by the story. “Run” has been one of my most highly anticipated films this year, ever since watching Aneesh Chagnaty’s debut film “Searching” in 2018, which was nothing short of spectacular. 

One of the first things that captured my attention was the movie’s authentic portrayal of a disabled lead character. The actor Kiera Allen uses a wheelchair in real life, and her outstanding performance gave this movie one of the best disabled representations I have ever seen, being one of the very few movies who hire disabled actors to play disabled roles.

This movie truly did not disappoint. The cinematography, music, and visuals, combined with the simplistic setting, made this movie effectively disturbing and terrifying. Although the movie has a pretty predictable storyline, the incredible performance from both actors brought the story to life, leaving me at the edge of my seat the entire time. The twisted and surprising ending also left me quite flabbergasted. 

However, the movie features many heavy topics of abuse, isolation and mental illnesses, with various frightening and violent scenes, which may not be suitable for all audiences. 

But if you are someone who is into horror or thriller, this short 90 minute movie is definitely worth the watch, and will leave you with important messages about disabilities and the lasting effects of abuse.
