Juanita Spices Up Dunhua

Hmmm. Mexican or Subway? Decisions, decisions. Well, here’s another great option: Juanita’s, a popular fast food joint that serves quick and cheap Mexican food.
With a fixed starting price of 180 NT, you can choose between steak, grilled chicken, carnitas or vegetarian. You can also get extras such as tortilla chips, fries, salsa or of course, guacamole (it wouldn’t be Mexican without that!).
Similar to Subway, you start at the beginning of the counter by choosing what type of food you want and move on to what meats and filling goes inside. And although Subway may have their cookies, Juanita’s has fries. Chili cheese fries, to be exact.
Covered in generous toppings, Juanita’s chili cheese fries is the only comfort food you need to catch up with friends over. Don’t have high expectations for the interior design though. The restaurant is decorated with Andy Warhol style Star Wars graphics, geometrically shaped metal chairs and a colourful triangle-patterned wall. There’s also a chalkboard near the entrance of the restaurant which displays the daily specials, deals and soup of the day. Otherwise, the rest of the area is simple and minimalistic (it is a fast food restaurant after all).
Word of advice: if you check in, like their page, and post a photo on Facebook, which will earn you some complimentary fries. Juanita’s is a definite go-to if you want to have straightforward and unpretentious Mexican food. The food comes quickly and everything is served on and eaten with disposables. And did I mention that they have free wifi?
The next time you can’t decide between Mexican food and Subway, just head over to Juanita’s to satisfy your cravings. Located down an alleyway, it’s easy to spot its red sign and wood-paneled storefront and is easily reached by MRT.
