Winter break self-care musts

With the end of a stressful semester and the start of a (hopefully) refreshing winter break, here are some self-care activities you should try while you have the time!

  1. Sleep

Maintaining a healthy sleep schedule in high school is hard enough, and when finals season comes around it gets even more challenging. Take this time during winter break to catch up on some much deserved “Z’s.” If you can, try to reset your sleep schedule so you feel well-rested once we get back to school in January.

  1. Clean out your backpack/workspace

Clear space, clear mind—that’s the idea of cleaning out your backpack and workspaces. To rid your mind of the stress of the semester, decluttering your physical school-related spaces will also be beneficial in decluttering your post-exam headspace.

  1. Catch up with friends

Since coronavirus has kept everyone on island, why not take this opportunity to meet with friends or spend time together? Whether it’s going out shopping, trying new local experiences, or studying together at home, there is no better time to maximize the memories you’ll have with the people closest to you.

  1. Start journaling

You’ve just completed an eighth of your total high school experience! Take some time to document your feelings about this semester and your life in general through journaling. Write whatever comes to mind. Writing down your candid thoughts is the perfect way to get things off your chest.

  1. Get active

Physical activity is one of the easiest ways to take care of yourself. Not only does exercise have physical benefits, but it also improves your mental state. Whether you go on a hike, try some yoga, or even just go for a walk, your body and brain will thank you for it!

  1. Take a break from Social media

It’s easy to get caught up in social media posts about college or the holidays, but taking a break from social media is the best way to renew your mind and re-establish good habits for the year ahead. Start with small steps: even waiting until after noon to check your phone or putting away the devices a few hours before bed can make a big difference.
