Alex’s acrylic piece is inspired by the 2020 Olympics, and showcases the unspoken side of mental illness in sports. The statue in the center with the medal around him is surrounded by other people; those people are all looking at the medal and not at the athlete. This highlights the fact that the well-being of athletes are often overlooked in sports. “I chose the statue that specifically has more of a fearful expression to show them hiding their fear,” Alex said.
